Today Waterford Stanley carries on this tradition with a strong
emphasis on Research & Development, Quality and the Environment
to produce state-of-the-art cast iron cooking and heating appliances.
Waterford Stanley is recognised
for its distinctive design character, and is dedicated to innovative
clean-burning technologies for all its products. Waterford Stanley
has introduced new products each year in pursuit of continuos product
improvement, and in so doing, has produced Cookers and Stoves which
meet or exceed strict US and European emissions and safety standards.
Waterford Stanley has a tradition
of manufacturing Cast Iron Stoves,
Cookers and Heaters dating back to the beginning of the Industrial
Revolution in the early 18th Century.
In the 1720's Abraham Darby developed the
technology to melt iron using Coke. Darby's system permitted
large scale production of iron at low cost. Since this led
to durable machine parts being cheap and plentiful it is
generally accepted as the genesis of the Industrial Revolution.
Darby
formed a company which lasted for over 200 years and in the
late 1920's it merged with several other foundries to form Allied
Iron Founders.
Allied Iron Founders set up Waterford Foundry
in Ireland in 1934, and the Darby traits of craftsmanship,
allied to technological developments, are alive and flourishing
today in a city where craftsmanship in a number of industries
- such as glass making - has become world famous.
